Trump questions need for Civil War

To take an excerpt from my limited social studies and history lessons and knowledge that I have retained from schooling, the Civil War was fought over the topic of slavery. Having a country that was divided into Free vs. Slave states, created a fairly even divide between the North and the South. During his campaign, future President Abraham Lincoln ran on the platform of eliminating slavery, which forced several states in the south to secede and eventually try and fight for the right (no not the right to party) but to keep slavery in affect.
In a recent interview, Trump was quoted saying, "...why was there a Civil War" and then later stated that if President Jackson had served later in Presidency then the United States could have avoided the war altogether.
There is only one difficult part with his logic and line of questioning. That for one, if I can pull the reasoning behind the Civil War (in the most rudimentary of terms), then one should expect the Commander in Chief to be able to cite key information on why the war was fought. I think anyone who has been to school had the kid in class that just yelled, "to free the slaves", and even that may have been more of a response than even provoking the question of why it was fought in the first place.
The other portion of his logic that doesn't make sense is that Andrew Jackson, who Trump wished had served, died 16 years prior to the war's beginning. While it's nice to think that everyone has the chance to become President of the United States, having a corpse of 16 years would help less then the front office of the New York Jets, and that is actually saying something. Public Service Announcement, if anyone in the Jets organization is looking for Jackson's services, he is buried in Nashville, TN.
After trying to delve into the depths of Donald Trumps convoluted brain, I have no idea what could make him say this. First of all there are answers readily available to him via the world wide web. While the death toll was disgustingly high, there can be arguments made that this war needed to happen, and if it didn't our social movements could be vastly behind at what they are today. And if you are afraid to type into your encrypted phone that needs the hacking skills of an MIT Doctoral Student on Steroids (not sure what the steroid conversion to hacking is), then ask someone in your cabinet. The only bad part is that for some reason I can see Trump going to the kitchen cabinet and speaking to Captain Olive Oil, Corporal Vanilla Extract, and Speaker of the House Hidden Valley Ranch, but even they might provide Trump with sage (kitchen vegetable joke) advice, which would be to say nothing since they are inanimate objects.
If I had to give Trump one piece of advice it would be to brush up on his U.S. History; maybe DVR the History channel and watch it when Ivanka is making you angry. You know how to get into the hearts of the American people, say your watching "game" film. Some of our most revered leaders are coaches, can't knock you for studying where America was and how we can use past ideals to make us even better! Coach Trump has a nice ring to it, except all his players would look like the Patriots wide receiving core. But, seriously, do anything other than asking about the highest casualty count for American soldiers in our history, that might be step one.
