Between you, me, and wix.com, I am not sure if that title exactly made sense but we are going to run with it.
If you haven't heard, or care to hear, Cardinal Geroge Pell was charged with sexual assault. And this is not to be confused with a St. Louis or Arizona Cardinal, rather one in the Catholic church. Even though the spread, hitting it in the gap, and catching balls has come up in this conversation.
Apparently George or Jorge in some Hispanic cultures, pronounced "WhoreHey" (which is what he probably whispered to his victims), served as some say, the leading symbol of the sex abuse problem. Which is like me serving as the leader of the "not living with their parents" committee, or Joe Mixon as a leader against domestic violence, it doesn't work in hindsight.
But what I think George Pell did, was take an old page out of the NFL PR playbook, which basically doesn't exist. Wherever you fall on the argument of deflated balls, and no I am not talking about Geroge Pell's insuing prison sentence, the NFL has done a rather fantastic job of covering up major stories such as domestic violence, drug abuse, and alcohol abuse, among others. But what George saw all the way across the pond was a blueprint written by our friend Roger Goodell. This blueprint is to speak out against something while simultaneously doing it.
While I am not saying Goodell engaged in any of these activities, they certainly linger in the league, much like the Catholic Church, and are addressed about as well as me writing on an envelope in Kindergarten. It's a sick world we live in, but we live in it nonetheless.
In an interview some years ago, he proclaimed that coverups were based on respect for the Church and what it was trying to do as an organization, but did not account for the other factors, i.e. the victims that were involved. If this man and his colleagues, that were engaging in this kind of act had any self respect for the Church and life itself, the repercussions of doing so should be self explanatory.
Unfortunately, Pells idea of "receiving the host" DOESNT come with the little white cracker. Then again, maybe some of the victims were white males, or in racist slang, "little white crackers", so maybe it DOES. I guess we will refer to them as church saltines from now on. I digress. In the article it states that he plans to defend the charges but I already know he's innocent. Wait, I'm from the USA, innocent until proven guilty. But this guy definitely sucks (which probably isn't the best choice of words).
The real shame in these types of events is that it doesnt account for all the clean, pure, and honest priests and other church officials that make up the Catholic Church or any other for that matter. Similarly, with police scandals, people and news outlets seemingly only find the bad in the air rather than the good, but like I said, that is just the world we live in.
So, at this expense, I crack a few jokes but this is definitely an issue that needs to be resolved. And hopefully the process of smiting this man by the wrath of God has only begun.
