Getting my thoughts out: Vol. 1

So it isn’t a secret that we’ve been off our game. And while we’ve said it before it’s clear that life and the Grim Reaper which is “The Man” is getting in the way of our job. With most of us beginning new jobs it seems that most of the time has been devoted to adjusting to new schedules, but we have lost sight of what we set out to do, which is to provide our opinion, while hopefully providing a couple of laughs on the way. But ever since we have stopped, the world, and specifically our country, the United States of America, have seemingly gone to shit. And while there is definitely no correlation, we can pretend that it is to make our valiant return to our fans. It’s been some time since we last spoke on our end, but as we’ve said many times before, “Our Bad”. But it feels great to be back.

To provide a moment of solace and reflection, I had an “what are we doing” moment in the car when I was driving to work today. With the events that took place in Las Vegas last night, I was sitting and wondering in bumper to bumper traffic how I could have been so naive and stupid. I was thinking about the 2nd amendment and the right to bear arms.

Now, this piece of legislation was pieced together by some of the smartest men in American history. But, as smart as they were, there was a miscalculation in advancement of technology. While there are some things like checks and balances, and a free market, that I believe they got right, the miscommunication of the right to bear arms is where the forefathers might have missed out on. Mainly because they did not anticipate what the technology in weaponry would become. Which is totally fair, shit I’m typing this on a 2x6 screen connected to the inter web, I’ll give my guys a HEAVY pass on this one. What I believe, and what I think they were trying to conceptualize here is that the right to bear arms is only applicable when the United States is under siege. Do you think the men and women serving this country, are going to let some other country waltz onto our shores and shoot us all? To quote my Christmas alter ego, Kevin McCallister, “I don’t think so”, rendering the purchasing of guns for recreation and “protection”, meaningless.

I took to Twitter about this topic as well, and was thinking about George Washington. As a little bit of a history nerd I can just imagine GW coming back to life, seeing an assault rifle, and laughing at the notion that basically anyone that applied for it could use it. Would he think it’s bad ass? Maybe! Would he think they are necessary? Hell no. It stinks because I have friends who are responsible with their weapons, follow rules to a T, and are mindful of the impact that they can have. But, we can’t sit and paint the argument anymore that, “Don’t let one person ruin it for all the responsible people out there”. Well I am sorry, I can’t take this shit anymore. If revoking guns is gonna save the lives of hundreds, including the 50+ that lost theirs last night, I am so game. I am not sure the blueprint on how to collect guns, but we have to start. I hate conveying the notion that I am trying to launch a PSA but I am so tired of all this nonsense. I grew up in a place where opportunity is on every street corner, and to see peoples opportunities to achieve their life goals makes me sick to my stomach. I love this country and every person in it, but I can’t see a way we can move forward with guns in the hands of it’s people. Being raised a Catholic, you shake hands with at least one person you don’t know every Sunday, and it’s taken me until now to realize that this practice may be the one thing this world needs right now. Tomorrow I am asking you to shake someone’s hand that you may not know, it may not seem like it’s making a difference, but I think subconsciously it lets the other know that we are equals and we are all in this together. I pray that the world is better tomorrow, than it was today, and that trend continues day in and day out. Thanks for reading, and I am not expecting everyone, if anyone to agree with me. But if I had one request it’s try to make the world a little more peaceful, life can be a lot more fun that way.
